Pacific Cross, a novel-in-progress, is a metaphysical mystery with interlocking storylines and French Canadian inflections. It begins in Depression-era Maine when a boy named Blaise Lefèvre inherits a mysterious crucifix, triggering a strange series of events as he grows up to run a small iron foundry. Meanwhile, in September 2001, his grandson Jacob interrupts his job as a hedge fund trader to investigate why Blaise (who is now an old man) has suddenly decided to sell the foundry to a billionaire with questionable intentions. As Jacob uncovers details about the sale—and, more crucially, his own father’s death many years earlier—a younger Blaise grapples with the crucifix and its disturbing legacy across the twentieth century, making it clear that much more than the family business is at stake.
